At the 2026 European Defense Exhibition, Scania further expanded its defense product portfolio by introducing a modular protective cab. Designed specifically for resilient and mission-critical defense logistics applications, this cab is integrated into Scania’s modular system, combining crew protection, mobility, and operational readiness in a single unit.
This armored cab made its debut at the 2026 European Defense Exhibition in Paris, enabling defense customers to deploy armored vehicles without switching to separate platforms. This achievement marks a significant performance leap for Scania’s modular systems and underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to developing robust, reliable, and customizable transportation solutions that meet modern, comprehensive defense requirements.
Stefano Fedel, Head of Scania’s Commercial Vehicle Business, stated: « Defence logistics and transport resilience are becoming increasingly vital for armed forces and societies across Europe and beyond. Through its protected cab design, Scania combines protection with operational readiness, leveraging the proven modularity, reliability, and support systems inherent in our global transportation ecosystem. » In defence operations, transport capacity is fundamental to military effectiveness and societal resilience. Vehicles must operate in harsh environments, support critical logistics, and remain operational throughout their long service life.
The protective cab is designed for operational scenarios where a balance must be struck between ensuring occupant safety and enabling effective mission execution—where vehicles must continue supporting tasks under complex terrain, adverse weather conditions, and prolonged use. The cab environment is engineered to enhance the driver’s alertness, maneuverability, and control capabilities in challenging combat environments.
This solution enhances occupant safety by providing bulletproof and explosion-proof protection without compromising visibility, ergonomics, or the familiar environment offered by Scania to drivers. It also supports integration with mission-specific systems, equipment, and vehicle bodies.
The protection level can be adjusted according to operational requirements and mission types. This product fully complies with STANAG Level 4, Grades 1–3 standards.
A key feature of this concept is its modular approach to protection and vehicle configuration. Customers can customize vehicles according to mission requirements and operational phases, enabling simultaneous support for training and combat readiness within a single vehicle architecture.
The protective cab is designed for 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 configurations, meeting strategic mobility requirements including UIC GA railway tunnel limits. This provides customers with long-term flexibility and enables efficient utilization of protective resources.
By maintaining consistency across the fleet, driver environment, and maintenance systems, customers can adapt their vehicles to various deployment requirements without compromising Scania’s core features—such as durability, driver-centric design, and operational efficiency.
